This quirky little book is a faithful reprint of an 1861 original, aimed at showing those of 'slender means' how to cook nourishing meals with the least amount of expense. The Italian author trained in France and eventually became 'Chief Cook in Ordinary' to HM Queen Victoria. I'm sure she had no inkling that 'Eggs Stewed with Cheese', 'Cow Heel Broth' and 'Toast Water', were in his repertoire.
